Wimbledon Day 2 - Gentlemen

(1)Novak Djokovic SRB vs Florian Mayer GER

Last year, Djokovic and Mayer met in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon. This year, Mayer had the luck to draw Djokovic in the first round despite being the first player outside of the top 32 seeds. Everyone would expect a similar win to last year's straight set rout of Mayer, but Djokovic will be on his toes as Rafael Nadal was upset by 135th ranked Steve Darcis in straight sets. However, Djokovic's amazing consistency and defense, as well as solid offensive skills, should be enough to power past the inconsisent Mayer.

Prediction: Djokovic in 3 tricky sets

Novak Djokovic, David Ferrer, Tomas Berdych, and the other players in the top half of the Wimbledon draw kick off their campaigns tomorrow. Djokovic plays Florian Mayer, a two-time quarterfinalist at Wimbledon, including last year losing to Djokovic. He is ranked 33rd and the first player outside of the seeds. Ferrer opens against Martin Alund, while Berdych plays Martin Klizan, both first time matchups. Watch out for Dmitry Tursunov against 13th seed Tommy Haas. Tursunov has 2 top 10 wins this year, and is capable of pulling the upset, especially on the fast surfaces with his excellent groundstrokes. American Sam Querrey has a tough opener against Bernard Tomic, who is coming off a solid quarterfinal appearance at Eastbourne. Other matches of interest are: Gasquet/Granollers, Simon/Lopez, and Dodig/Kohlschreiber.
