French Open Day 7 - Women

(31)Alize Cornet FRA vs (3)Victoria Azarenka BLR

Cornet has been on a great run of form as of late on her favorite surface-red clay. She won Strasbourg last week, and is currently riding a 7 match win streak. With the home crowd on Phillipe Chatrier behind her, can she pull the upset against the 2-time Australian Open champ and former world #1? Maybe Azarenka is too tall of a task.

Prediction: Azarenka in 2 tough sets

Zheng Jie CHN vs (2)Maria Sharapova RUS

After a solid 2012 breaking back into the top 30, Zheng has been somewhat struggling in 2013. Zheng has only reached one quarterfinal all year, though that was on clay last week in Brussels. Her ranking has dipped down to 43. Sharapova, on the other hand, has had a similarly successful year from her 2012 campaign. She has won 2 titles-Stuttgart and Indian Wells, reached 2 finals-Miami and Madrid, 2 semis-Australian Open and Doha, and 1 quarter-Rome. Sharapova leads Zheng 2-1 in head-to-head, but they have never met on clay and have not played since 2010. But the stark contrast in forms, as well as Sharapova's sparkling 31-2 clay court record since 2012 (only losses to Serena Williams), should prove enough for Sharapova.

Prediction: Sharapova in 2 sets
