French Open Day 10 - Men

(6)Jo-Wilfried Tsonga FRA vs (2)Roger Federer SUI

Roger Federer
Tsonga is the last French hope in the singles draw - men and women. Tsonga matched his best performance from last year, reaching the quarterfinals at Roland Garros. He looks to continue his run and become the first French male champ here since Yannick Noah in 1983. Tsonga and David Ferrer are the only 2 quarterfinalists to have not dropped a set in the tournament. On the other hand, Federer absolutely clinical until the fourth round. Against Simon, another French player, he looked like a stranger to many fans until he upped his game in the big points to oust Simon in 5 sets. Federer is now facing a higher quality player in Tsonga, and needs to produce the form from his first three rounds if he wants to get past Tsonga. Anything like the form in the fourth round against the last French hope will most likely end in an upset. Tsonga has troubled Federer in the past, producing 3 wins, but he will need to play a perfect match to reach the semifinals.

Prediction: Federer in 4 tough sets

(32)Tommy Robredo ESP vs (4)David Ferrer ESP

David Ferrer
Two Spanish veterans will fight it out in the quarterfinals. They have advanced in blindingly contrasting fashions. Robredo reached the quarters by rallying from 2 sets to love down for 3 straight matches. That's right THREE straight matches. In doing so, he became the first man since 1927 to accomplish that feat. On the other hand, Ferrer has dropped just 32 games in 12 sets, not dropping a set onto the quarterfinals. How much gas does Robredo have left after so much tennis? Can he continue his fairytale run at Roland Garros?

Prediction: Ferrer in 4 sets
